It was Saint Therese of the Child Jesus who once said, “Some give to the Mission by going while some go to the Mission by giving.” The call to become Missionaries was first extended to the Church by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:20, with the instruction: “Go therefore into the world and make disciples of all nations…”
In fulfilling this task of making disciples of all nations, the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria was created on May 29, 1969 from the Archdiocese of Lagos with only Five Parishes. Located in the rural part of Ogun State, Nigeria, the Diocese covers over 5,690.02 sq. km with 70% of her parishes in the rural areas where there are no good roads, electricity and good water for the villagers.
However, the Bishop, Priests and Laity of the Diocese continues to spread the good news despite the difficulties involved in going to these rural places. The joy and fulfilment of this mission comes from being able to celebrate mass and provide the sacrament for the people who live in these places.
In most of these areas in the Diocese, the Priests remain committed to providing for the spiritual and material wellbeing of the people. Therefore, the provision of potable water, educational and health facilities, feeding programs, and other basic amenities are necessary parts of the Good News that we preach especially in the poor and remote areas of the Diocese.
In addition to the funds required to sustain these projects, provision of basic needs for our missionaries and tools like trucks and motocycles are equally very essential to the success of our mission work.
The major responsibility of the Promotions office in the Diocese is to solicit funds to enable the Diocese undertake her missionary ventures in different parts of the Diocese. We need you as partners and we earnestly request that you become associated with our work to enable us achieve our missionary vision for the Church. Together we will bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Your partnership and support strengthen us as we give the faith and ourselves to others.
